Today training camp started for the Miami Dolphins. Followed shortly by preseason football and then the regular season.
Regardless of what you read in the next few weeks not one person has the inside track for what to expect this upcoming season.
No one. Not the teams beat writers. Certainly not the national media. And yes, not even me.
We will not know after the second or third preseason game either.
Best bet?
Take a look at what we have seen from the team between now and the fifth game of the season. Then you might have an inkling of what this team is.
Even then it is still a crapshoot.
Quarterback Ryan Tannehill has looked decent. Former New England Patriots receiver Danny Amendola looks like he has not lost a step. Veteran running back Frank Gore looks like he is 25 not 35. That is promising. But this is just the start.
This is a journey. It started with the NFL Scouting Combine the beginning of March. It comes to an end in Atlanta. On February 3, 2019 two fortunate teams will play for the Lombardi Trophy in the Super Bowl.
There is a long time between now and then.
As of today we know nothing.
We will learn a lot about this team. And about thirty-one other teams in the next six months.
We know the destination. Enjoy the journey.
