Robert Saleh is the new head coach of the New York Jets

Late Thursday night it was announced that Robert Saleh, former defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers, would become the next head coach for the New York Jets.

He replaces Adam Gase, with Gase it was never a question of if he would be fired but when. He went 9-23 over his two seasons.

Saleh was highly sought after during this offseasons coaching searches. His defense was a good part of the reason behind the 49ers recent Super Bowl run. This season even with the pandemic and a large number of injuries he managed to lead the 49ers defense to 5th in yards and 17th in scoring.

It has been reported that he will bring with him San Francisco’s passing game coordinator Mike LeFleur to be his Offensive Coordinator. He is the brother of Packers head coach Matt LeFleur. Is assumed that they will bring a similar offense as the one they ran under Kyle Shanahan.

Saleh will have a number of questions to answer this offseason. The first is obviously what will happen with Sam Darnold. That decision will guide the others. Helping is the fact the Jets have two first round picks and $71 million in cap room.

It will be a busy offseason with a lot of excitement for the New York Jets franchise. Next season will give us our first hints of how different this team may be.
